Flights, Trains Canceled as Typhoon Bebinca Slams Into Shanghai

The most powerful typhoon to hit Shanghai in more than seven decades barreled into the financial hub Monday morning, disrupting air and rail services during a three-day public holiday.
Typhoon Bebinca made landfall in the city’s Pudong district around 7:30 a.m., bringing gales of up to 151 kph (94 mph) near its eye, the China Meteorological Administration said Monday. Bebinca, known as Beibijia in Chinese, is the strongest storm to land in Shanghai since Typhoon Gloria in 1949.
