A rundown of the news making headlines in and around China:
Trade war: The State Council announced Tuesday that China will slap additional tariffs on selected U.S. products starting from Feb. 10. The hikes include an extra 15% duty on coal and liquefied natural gas, as well as an added 10% on crude oil, agricultural machinery, and pickup trucks. The State Council said the move was in response to U.S. government's decision to impose an additional 10% tariff on all Chinese goods. China’s market regulator also announced an antitrust probe into Google LLC.
