A rundown of the news making headlines in and around China:

Trump’s tariffs: The U.S. will impose an additional 10% duty on Chinese imports starting March 4, adding to the extra 10% tariff that took effect a month earlier. U.S. President Donald Trump announced the new duty on social media Thursday. Trump said the tariff hike was justified because drugs — particularly fentanyl “made and supplied by China” — continued to flow into the U.S. He also announced an additional 25% duty on Canadian and Mexican imports that would also take effect March 4. The statement contradicted his remarks at a cabinet meeting the day before, when he said the extra duties would not go into effect until April 2.
