Chinese manufacturers exported wind turbines with a total capacity of 5.19 gigawatts (GW) in 2024, a nearly 42% increase from the year before, with most going to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The top five destinations for turbine exports were Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Brazil, Egypt and Kazakhstan, a report published last week by the Chinese Wind Energy Association (CWEA) showed. Only Brazil is not part of the BRI, a multibillion-dollar global infrastructure project led by Beijing.
Saudi Arabia was the No. 1 destination, receiving turbines with a total of 780 megawatts of capacity, 15% of the total exported last year. This marked a 186% increase from 2023, the first year the Middle Eastern country imported wind turbines from China, CWEA data showed.
