Hong Kong Universities Uncover Hundreds of Fraudulent Applications

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has uncovered hundreds of applications from non-local students suspected of using fake academic credentials during its admissions process for the 2025/26 academic year, the university confirmed Monday. None of the applicants involved were admitted.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) also intercepted hundreds of similar fraudulent applications from various countries for the same academic year, a sharp increase from about 10 cases in the previous year, according to Wang Jiacheng, the university’s director of admissions and financial aid. Separately, Hong Kong Polytechnic University said it had identified about 10 such cases and has already canceled the applications and admission offers.
