Xi, Carney Agree to Reboot China-Canada Ties at APEC Meeting

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney agreed to resume comprehensive dialogue and cooperation during a meeting on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea, signaling a thaw in years of diplomatic frost between the two nations.
The meeting took place on Friday in the city of Gyeongju, according to China’s official Xinhua News Agency. The talks coincided with the 55th anniversary of the countries’ diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of their strategic partnership.
The agreement marked a significant effort by both governments to reset ties that had been strained in recent years. Carney’s newly elected administration, which took office earlier this year, is aiming to “make up for lost time” by restoring trust and rebuilding bilateral ties, Xinhua reported.
