China’s Securities Chief Makes Global Pitch in Paris, Rio

Wu Qing, chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), traveled to Paris and Rio de Janeiro this week in a bid to strengthen cross-border financial cooperation and boost foreign investor confidence.
Wu’s visit, which ran from Monday to Thursday, included meetings with his regulatory peers — Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani of France’s Financial Markets Authority and Otto Lobo and Marina Copola of Brazil’s Securities and Exchange Commission. According to a CSRC statement posted Thursday night, the discussions focused on developments in financial regulation across the European Union and Brazil, as well as expanding bilateral ties in capital markets.
In addition to his meetings with foreign regulators, Wu met with major global financial institutions, including Société Générale, BNP Paribas, Barclays, UBS and Pictet Group.
