Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone Monday evening, with the Chinese leader emphasizing Beijing’s stance on Taiwan and calling for the two nations to expand cooperation following their meeting in South Korea last month, according to the official Xinhua News Agency.
President Xi said their in-person meeting last month in Busan, South Korea, had provided direction for the bilateral relationship and signaled global stability. He characterized China-U.S. ties as “generally stable and improving” since the summit.
“Facts have again proved that cooperation benefits both sides, while confrontation harms both,” Xi said, adding that mutual success and shared prosperity are “a tangible reality.”
