China Appoints Legal Scholar to Lead State Secrets Agency

China named Song Gongde, a legal scholar and veteran Party regulator, as the new head of the country’s bureau responsible for safeguarding classified information.
The State Council announced the appointment Wednesday, installing Song as director of the National Administration of State Secret Protection. He succeeds Li Zhaozong, who had led the agency since 2021.
