Former Party Theorist Named Provincial Political Consultative Chief

The conclusion of the 2026 provincial legislative season has brought the appointment of a new top political advisor in Anhui province, eastern China, with a former central government theorist taking the helm of the provincial consultative body.
Zhang Ximing, previously the head of the United Front Work Department of the Anhui provincial committee, was elected chairman of the provincial committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on Feb. 7. He succeeded Tang Liangzhi, an alternate member of the 19th Central Committee who has surpassed the standard retirement age of 65.

- January 2025:
- Zhang Ximing was elected vice chairman of the Anhui provincial political consultative body and ceased to be a member of the Anhui provincial Party standing committee, while retaining his role as head of the United Front Work Department.

- Zhang Ximing was elected chairman of the Anhui provincial committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
