A fireworks shop explosion in central China killed 12 people, including five minors, local authorities said, as the country was in the middle of its nine-day Spring Festival holiday.
The blast occurred at 2:24 p.m. Wednesday at the Qianhe fireworks store in Zhengji town, Yicheng, a county-level city in Hubei province. The fire affected an area of more than 100 square meters, according to a Thursday press conference held by local authorities. The cause remains under investigation.
