Three prominent defense scientists and former executives at China’s top state-owned military conglomerates have been quietly removed from the official roster of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
A recent update to the academy’s website showed that the names and biographies of Wu Manqing, Zhao Xiangeng, and Wei Yiyin were deleted from its full list of academicians. All three men have extensive career backgrounds in the country’s defense industry.

- Wei Yiyin served as the deputy general manager of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp. He is an expert in missile guidance and control, having worked on cruise missile systems. He held this position before stepping down in June 2023.
- Aero Engine Corp. of China
- Cao Jianguo, former chairman of the Aero Engine Corp. of China, was elected to the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2019. His profile has since been removed from the academy's list. He previously served as general manager and chairman of the aerospace conglomerate.
