A Chinese think tank leader has called for expanding the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), urging that Hong Kong be prioritized for membership.
Chi Fulin, president of the China Institute for Reform and Development, made the remarks on Wednesday at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2026.
The proposal comes as regional economies seek to strengthen trade ties and update rules under RCEP, against a backdrop of rising protectionism and renewed U.S. tariff measures.
