China’s investment in domestic nuclear power construction hit a record 161 billion yuan ($23.6 billion) in 2025, up 10% from the previous year, a new report showed.

This historic spending underscores the country’s accelerated push to expand its nuclear energy capacity, aiming to meet national climate goals and bolster energy security. It also positions China to surpass the U.S. as the world’s largest nuclear power generator before 2030.
