Honda Scrambles to Stem Bleeding in China With Gasoline-Car Plant Shutdown
Listen to the full version

(Nikkei Asia) — Honda Motor Co. Ltd. halts operations in June at a Chinese production facility for gasoline-fueled cars, struggling to reinvigorate its fortunes in the country after failing to keep up with the shift to electric vehicles (EVs).
The move contrasts with Honda’s strategy in the U.S., where it has suspended development of EVs.
The Japanese company will shut its Huangpu factory in Guangdong province, operated through a joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. Ltd. The facility, which opened in 1999, makes gasoline models including the Integra sedan and the ZR-V and Breeze sport utility vehicles.
