China sentenced two former defense ministers, Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu, to death with a two-year reprieve for corruption, state media reported Thursday.

A Chinese military court issued the rulings Wednesday, saying both men would receive life imprisonment without the possibility of parole or sentence reduction after the reprieve period expires. The court also ordered the confiscation of all personal assets.

The punishments cap a sweeping antigraft campaign targeting the People’s Liberation Army and signal Beijing’s determination to eradicate entrenched corruption within the military leadership and the weapons procurement system.
