Former Hubei Governor Who Bungled Early Covid-19 Response Faces Graft Probe

Wang Xiaodong, the former governor of China’s Hubei province who faced intense public backlash for his disastrous handling of the initial Covid-19 outbreak in Wuhan, has been placed under investigation for suspected severe disciplinary and legal violations.
China’s top anti-graft watchdog, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, announced the probe on May 17. Wang Xiaodong, 66, is currently a member of the Standing Committee of the 14th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee and deputy director of its Committee on Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
