Si Xinran, a 25-year-old with hearing impairment, had been struggling to find work. “Companies would reject me as soon as they saw my condition,” she said. Feeling her disability was an obstacle she could never overcome, Si had almost given up — until she discovered a novel community in eastern China that changed her life.
Rukang Jiayuan, in Wenshang county, Shandong province, is home to more than 40 disabled residents who live, learn, and work together across a variety of jobs.
