Chinese shipbuilders secured orders worth more than 30 billion yuan ($4.4 billion) at the recently concluded Posidonia maritime exhibition in Greece, as their race with Japanese and South Korean rivals for dominance in next-generation new-energy vessels heats up.
During the event, state-owned China State Shipbuilding Corp. (CSSC) received orders for about 20 new ships worth more than 10 billion yuan, including 12 very large crude carriers (VLCCs) ordered by Dynacom Tankers Management Ltd., two 50,000-ton oil tankers ordered by Pleiades Shipping Agents SA and two 1,900-TEU feeder container ships ordered by Erasmus Shipinvest Group. Some of the orders will be settled in yuan.
