A fresh initiative is targeting the proliferation of online misinformation and extortion campaigns directed at Chinese businesses.
Under the guidance of the Cyberspace Administration of China, major internet platforms recently drafted a pact aimed at policing infringing content and creating a clean digital business environment.
An official from the national cyberspace regulator noted that the pact fosters industry consensus and strengthens self-regulation. “Its formulation and release will further optimize the digital business environment and protect the legitimate online rights of enterprises and their founders,” the official said, adding that the agency will guide platforms to ensure the agreement is put into practice.
