China’s Politburo Warns of Extreme Weather, Urges Preparations for Floods and Droughts

China’s top leadership warned Tuesday that the country faces an elevated risk of extreme weather, including concurrent severe droughts and floods, during the upcoming peak flood season, urging nationwide preparations for major natural disasters.

The Politburo of the Communist Party of China convened to map out strategies for flood control and drought relief, according to the official Xinhua News Agency. General Secretary Xi Jinping presided over the meeting.
