JD.com Enters Hong Kong Student-Housing Market With $96 Million Hotel Deal

Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com Inc. is buying a Hong Kong hotel for HK$750 million ($95.6 million) and plans to convert it into student housing, marking its first foray into the city’s rapidly growing education accommodation market.
Hong Kong developer Far East Consortium International Ltd. announced the sale of the Silka Seaview Hotel in Kowloon on Monday. The property, located near the Yau Ma Tei subway station, will be fully transformed into a student dormitory by the second half of 2026.
