A former senior official at China’s state tobacco monopoly has been indicted on charges of accepting an “especially huge” amount of bribes, the latest high-profile figure to fall in a sweeping anti-corruption purge of the country’s lucrative tobacco industry.
Han Zhanwu, former deputy head of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration, will stand trial in the city of Jiujiang in Jiangxi province, China’s Supreme People’s Procuratorate announced on Tuesday. Han is the 34th centrally administered cadre to face prosecution in 2026, marking a continued crackdown on top-tier officials.
