Travel Time at 24-Hour Hong Kong-Mainland Border to Plunge to Five Minutes
Listen to the full version

Travel time at the only 24-hour border crossing between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland is set to plunge from roughly 30 minutes to just five minutes. The dramatic reduction follows Beijing’s approval for a new, streamlined Hong Kong-administered zone at the reconstructed Huanggang Port, set to open on July 31.
The updated facility, located in Shenzhen’s Futian district, will adopt a collaborative inspection and joint clearance model. Under this setup, travelers and vehicles will no longer face the cumbersome process of clearing customs twice in separate locations. Instead, a single co-location arrangement will handle exit and entry procedures simultaneously.
