The former head of asset management at Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Ltd. (ICBC) (601398.SH) has been sentenced to life in prison for bribery and embezzlement involving roughly 140 million yuan ($21 million), people familiar with the matter told Caixin.

The appeals ruling cements the downfall of Gu Jiangang, a once-powerful executive who oversaw nearly 3 trillion yuan in wealth management funds at the world’s largest bank.
