Japanese Military Officer Indicted Over Armed Break-in at Chinese Embassy

Japanese prosecutors on Monday local time indicted an active-duty military officer who broke into the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo armed with a knife, adding an intimidation charge that acknowledges the threat posed to diplomatic staff.

The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office formally charged Kodai Murata, a 23-year-old lieutenant in the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, with trespassing, violating the Firearm and Sword Control Law and criminal intimidation.
