Oil tanker traffic through the Red Sea and crude loadings at Saudi Arabia’s Yanbu port have fallen by more than 70% after a surge in Houthi militant attacks, disrupting a key energy corridor that has historically handled about half of China’s seaborne crude imports.

At noon on Monday, the Kaizhu, a very large crude carrier (VLCC) owned by China Merchants Energy Shipping Co. Ltd., passed through the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait carrying 300,000 tons of Saudi crude bound for Ningbo. It was the only VLCC to transit the strait during a two-day period.
