Chongqing Names Acting Mayor, Police Chief in Sweeping Leadership Reshuffle

The Chinese megacity of Chongqing announced a sweeping overhaul of its top government leadership, naming a new acting mayor and police chief to fill vacancies created by a high-profile corruption probe and a sudden death.

The reshuffle, approved Friday by the municipal legislature, fills six senior positions. Chen Xinwu was appointed vice mayor and acting mayor, replacing Hu Henghua, a senior member of the Communist Party Central Committee who was ousted in a graft investigation in March. Tan Quan, a former assistant minister of public security, takes over as vice mayor and police chief following the sudden death of his predecessor, Zhang Anjiang, in May.
