Autonomous driving standards

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has issued mandatory national safety standards for autonomous driving, effective July 1, 2027. 

The rules apply to Level 3 and Level 4 autonomous vehicles, excluding self-parking features. The standards mandate that an autonomous system’s safety level must be no lower than that of a qualified human driver, establishing corporate responsibility for vehicle safety management, human-machine interaction and testing.
