China has added eight banks to the roster of institutions authorized to operate digital yuan services, lifting the total to 30 as the central bank presses ahead with the rollout of the e-CNY.

The People’s Bank of China (PBOC) said Monday that the latest approvals cover three national joint-stock lenders — Ping An Bank, Hengfeng Bank and China Bohai Bank — and five city commercial banks: Bank of Shanghai, Bank of Hangzhou, Huishang Bank, Bank of Changsha and Guangxi Beibu Gulf Bank.
