Former Peking University Vice President Sentenced to Eight Years for Bribery

A Chinese court sentenced the former vice president of the country’s most prestigious university to eight years in prison for bribery on Monday, marking the fall of the youngest senior official ensnared in Beijing’s sweeping anti-corruption campaign.

Ren Yuzhong, who served at Peking University, was convicted of illegally accepting 31.95 million yuan ($4.75 million) in bribes, according to a statement from the Dandong Intermediate People’s Court in Liaoning province. The court also fined Ren 2.6 million yuan and ordered the confiscation of all illicit gains to the state treasury.
