A veteran banker has been appointed acting mayor of Shenzhen, placing a finance specialist at the helm of China’s primary technology and economic hub.
The Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee appointed Li Yun as vice mayor and acting mayor on Monday. Li concurrently serves as vice governor of Guangdong province.
He succeeds Qin Weizhong, who resigned due to a job transfer after serving as mayor since May 2021. Li is the 15th mayor since Shenzhen was established in 1979.
