Chinese Banks Launch ‘Token Loans’ to Fund AI Firms

Chinese banks have begun issuing loans to AI-related companies based on their computing power and token usage, exploring new ways to finance asset-light tech companies.
The loans follow a massive surge in AI adoption in China, where daily token usage has skyrocketed from 100 billion to more than 140 trillion over the past two years.
State-owned lenders, including Bank of China Ltd. and Agricultural Bank of China Ltd., have rolled out “token loans” and computing-power credit lines, typically offering several million yuan per borrower.
