Shanghai Taps Former Finance Official Zhu Zhongming as Next Mayor

China’s largest city and financial hub is set to welcome a former finance official as its new mayor, as a younger generation of leaders takes the reins of municipal power.
Zhu Zhongming, 54, has been appointed head of the Shanghai municipal government’s Communist Party group. The appointment was confirmed on Saturday, Aug. 29, when Zhu presided over a government party group meeting, officially marking his first public appearance in the role.
