Asia-Pacific collectors are pouring money into Christie’s Inc.’s high-end auctions, with spending on $10 million-plus lots surging eightfold year-on-year in the first half of 2026, as AI-fueled wealth and rich young family heirs reshape the luxury collecting scene, said the head of the auction house’s regional operations.
During an interview with Caixin last month, Rahul Kadakia, chief executive officer of Christie’s Asia-Pacific business, said that Asia-Pacific clients’ total bidding value jumped 60% year-on-year in the first half. He noted that while their successful purchases accounted for 20% of the company’s global auction sales, their unsuccessful bids represented another roughly 20%, bringing Asian collectors’ overall purchasing intent to more than $1 billion in the first half.
