European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has lowered its 20-year forecast for single-aisle jet demand in China, citing the rapid expansion of the country’s high-speed rail network.

The revision underscores intensifying competition between Chinese airlines and the state-run railway system, though Airbus said the two modes of transport are likely to become increasingly complementary on longer-distance trips.
