Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Investment Co. has acquired a minority stake in Luckin Coffee Inc. through a roughly $1 billion transaction involving the Chinese coffee chain’s controlling shareholder.

Under the arrangement, Mubadala partnered with private-equity firm Centurium Capital Management Ltd., which transferred part of its Luckin holdings to a Mubadala-backed special-purpose vehicle.
