Former Nanjing Museum Chief Jailed in Bribery Case Tied to Missing Masterpiece

Former Nanjing Museum director Xu Huping has been sentenced to three years in prison for taking bribes, concluding a high-profile investigation triggered by the disappearance of a donated masterpiece from the museum’s vaults and its later appearance at a commercial auction.

Xu, 81, who led one of China’s most prominent museums for more than a decade, was also fined 200,000 yuan ($29,784). His sentencing follows a broad probe into the mishandling and illicit sale of cultural relics that led to disciplinary action against more than two dozen officials, according to Xinhua News Agency.
