Chinese Envoy Urges U.S. To Avoid AI ‘Star Wars’ Ahead of Xi Visit

Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Xie Feng said Beijing and Washington should pursue bounded, constructive competition and avoid an artificial-intelligence-era “Star Wars,” as President Xi Jinping prepares for a state visit to the U.S. at President Donald Trump’s invitation.

The trip would be Xi’s first state visit to the U.S. in 11 years and follows a meeting between Xi and Trump in Beijing in May, Xie wrote in an article published by the state-run People’s Daily on Wednesday. The two leaders agreed then to build what Beijing calls a “constructive strategic stability” relationship, Xie said.
