Chinese automakers are increasingly integrating AI into vehicle cabins to establish a new competitive edge.

With advanced driver assistance systems maturing and offering less room for differentiation, car manufacturers are turning to AI-powered digital assistants to redefine the in-car experience and attract tech-savvy consumers.

SAIC Motor Corp. Ltd.’s Roewe brand launched presales on Monday for a new vehicle featuring the Doubao cabin assistant. Co-developed by SAIC’s passenger vehicle unit and ByteDance Ltd.’s cloud arm Volcengine, the system can engage in generative conversations and control vehicle functions based on user commands.
