CATL Starts Battery Production at Hungary Plant

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL) has begun production of battery cells at its plant in Debrecen, Hungary, after a series of environmental and workplace safety challenges.

The facility, with a planned annual production capacity of 100 gigawatt-hours of battery cells, is the largest overseas production base for CATL, which also has a manufacturing presence in Germany and Spain. Designed to serve major European automakers including Mercedes-Benz Group AG and BMW AG, the plant is expected to support local economic development and the broader European new-energy vehicle supply chain, CATL said.
