Obituary: Liu Huan, Chinese Pop Icon and Voice of Beijing Olympics, Dies at 63

Chinese singer and songwriter Liu Huan, whose voice became a fixture of television dramas and national events from the 1980s and who performed at the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Asian Games and Olympics, died in Shanghai on Sept. 25. He was 63.

Liu, an associate professor at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, was widely known in China as a “national singer.” No cause of death was disclosed.
