China’s Holiday Box Office Plummets Despite Cheaper Tickets

China’s National Day holiday ended with its weakest box office showings in recent years, reflecting weak domestic consumption as moviegoers tightened their purse strings despite cheaper tickets.
The major holiday between Oct. 1 and Oct. 7 brought in about 1.17 billion yuan ($174 million), down 36% from a year earlier, according to the China Movie Database under the Communist Party’s publicity department.
