A new U.S. rule took effect Tuesday that expands restrictions on Chinese technology companies from finished products to components they make, potentially blocking a wider range of electronics from entering the U.S. market.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rule makes it harder for devices to receive required U.S. authorization if they contain certain logic-processing hardware made by companies on the agency’s Covered List, which includes Huawei Technologies Co., ZTE Corp., Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co. Ltd., Dahua Technology Co. and Hytera Communications Corp. The FCC adopted the rule in July.
