Chinese companies should license their advanced green technologies to U.S. manufacturers, allowing the U.S. to benefit from China’s technological advances while creating local jobs and avoiding tariffs, said Stephen Orlins, president of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations.

Orlins cited Ford Motor Co.’s electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in Michigan as an example of how the two countries could cooperate despite trade tensions. The facility, having overcome numerous challenges, is now manufacturing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries using the technology of Chinese battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL).
