Chinese President Xi Jinping and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier pledged to deepen cooperation in trade, technology and other areas, as Beijing called on Europe to resist protectionism and maintain open economic ties with China.

At talks in Beijing on Friday, Xi said China and Germany should establish a new model of cooperation defined by equality, mutual benefit and strategic stability, according to the official Xinhua News Agency. He said the world’s second- and third-largest economies had a responsibility to support stable global economic growth and the development of China-Europe relations.
