Northwest China’s Xinjiang Gets New Communist Party Chief

China has appointed a new party chief of the Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region in its latest reshuffle of regional leaders, replacing Chen Quanguo, who has held the post since 2016, according to state media.
Ma Xingrui, governor of South China’s Guangdong province, was given the new role while the 66-year-old Chen will “be given another appointment,” the state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.
The change comes as China is due to complete a reshuffle of provincial party committees before the 20th National Party Congress, which is due to convene next autumn and elect members of the Communist Party’s Central Committee for a five-year term.
