Income Tax Changes Blocked by Legislator
(Beijing) -- China's draft amendment to the individual income tax law failed to pass the National People's Congress' initial review on April 22 at a regulatory meeting of the legislator.
Caixin learned from the legislator that the draft amendment will be reviewed for the second or even third time, later this year, after necessary revisions.
The amendment was proposed by the State Council, China's cabinet, to raise the minimum threshold for individual income tax from the current 2,000 yuan per month to 3,000 yuan per month, in an aim to reduce the tax burden on low- to middle-income earners, as the cabinet said.
