China's Income Tax Reform Plan Gets a Holiday
A plan to eliminate personal income taxes for workers earning less than 3,000 yuan a month and ease tax burdens for the middle class died just a few days after reaching China's legislature, but could be revived later this year.
The proposed amendment to the income tax law, the most sweeping changes since the nationwide levy took effect in 1994, failed a National People's Congress review and was shelved April 22. Later, a statement on the NPC website said the draft would be reviewed again, and that public comments would be accepted until May 25.
