Sustainability, Squared Away

Almost every economic control policy comes at a cost. Administrative and legal measures consume a nation's political resources, while fiscal policies eat up cash.

Monetary policy seems to be an exception. Although every central bank keeps a very limited capital base, none has ever been prevented from a large-scale intervention in financial markets, regardless of the cost.
